The First Day

The first day of 2013 was spent on the beautiful slopes of Teton Village near Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  We enjoyed a day of skiing with my cousins, my aunt and uncle and my sister's family.

Once we arrived and Mowgli found his 10 year old cousin, they pretty much disappeared for the rest of the day.  It was the first time we've let Mowgli enjoy that kind of independence.  At the end of the day, Mowgli even reported that he and his cousin stopped for lunch!  They sat on a bench near the chair lift we were using and my nephew pulled out a Lunchable from his pocket that they shared.

I guess I should tell you that my sister is ALWAYS prepared.  She'd make a good boy scout.  They don't like to take breaks when they ski, so she loads her kids' pockets with fruit snacks, string cheese, a Lunchable and a small water bottle.  My nephew also shared his snacks with Mowgli on the chair lift.  It made me think of the times I would have snacks in my pocket as a child, I would nibble on cookies as I rode up the chair lift.

With one hour left of skiing time, Bud and I opted for a quick break to try and warm up.

The Mr. says he thinks skiing can be one of our family hobbies.  I am so excited!  He is such a good sport.  I'm POSITIVE that if I were the one learning to snow ski as an adult, I would not be interested.  But The Mr. is doing awesome and catching on really well.

It was a great way to welcome The New Year.
